Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy

ABOUT
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities. The creation of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy was the Sorority's bold determination to save our young females ages 11-14 from the perils of academic failure, and to expose them to worlds beyond their imagination. Delta Academy provides an opportunity for the Katy Area Alumnae Chapter to enrich and enhance the education that young teens receive in school.

GOALS
The goals for the Delta Academy program are:
● To develop their abilities and talents to be able to compete in a global society and
become change agents in the transformation of their communities.
● To enhance their decision making and communication skills.
● To guide girls into womanhood with educational support and professional guidance that
will teach them how to create opportunities for academic success.
● To ensure our young girls are ready and prepared role leaders in the ever changing
world of the 21st Century through science, technology, engineering, arts, and
mathematics (STEAM).

PURPOSE
The aim of the Dr . Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is to develop young women with positive
attitudes towards themselves and others, and who are effective and optimistic problem solvers that are contingent about their future. The Delta Academy is one response to imperatives of the future. It is an exciting and innovative way for Delta women of vision of the Katy Area Alumnae Chapter to use their considerable resources and energies to develop new purpose, new skills and new leaders from the ranks of 11 to 14-year old young women. The Delta Academy offers supervised and structured experiences that will provide our young girls with the necessary tools to embrace their strength and worthiness to be productive citizens in an increasingly' Generation Z-focused society.

COMMITMENT
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Inc. continues its commitment to young women who demonstrate the potential to succeed, but who may not have the necessary support systems to meet their highest potential.
