FIVE POINT PROGRAMMATIC THRUST
Since its founding in 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has distinguished itself as a public service organization that boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and hence, all Americans. Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international involvement and the strengthening of the African American family have evolved. In realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public service initiatives through its Five Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
This initiative helps to spread financial literacy throughout our local community. Our programs include our Financial Fortitude workshop series which span topics such as being financially prepared for life’s events, funding paths to higher education and entrepreneurship.
EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Our Educational Development programs include the Delta Academy for young ladies ages 11-14 and the Delta GEMS program for young ladies ages 14-18.
INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS & INVOLVEMENT
Our IAI Committee develops programming that helps to educate and inform our community of global happenings including World AIDS Day and supporting the diversity of our local area.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL HEALTH
Our PMH Committee provides opportunities for our community to get fit through dance classes, cooking lessons and of course, our Zumba!
Our Social Action Committee develops programs that educate, train, and support the community in becoming more politically aware and socially conscious. Programs include Delta Days at the State Capitol, candidate forums, and voter registration, education and mobilization.
